Everything You Need to Know About Insulating Metal Surfaces with POLYNOR Foam

"I have a typical metal garage. It's great to have one on the property, but the problem is, when you're inside, it feels like you're outside..."

This is a common complaint from clients looking for solutions to their issues with condensation, noise, and high summer temperatures. Garages, shipping containers, hangars, and any other sheet metal structures face the same challenges. POLYNOR offers an effective solution to these problems.

What are the benefits of insulation with POLYNOR foam?

Special care

What should you keep in mind?

Ventilation

A garage insulated with foam creates a sort of “thermos,” and as a result, any moisture brought inside the garage—such as snow on your shoes—will stay there. Make some holes at the top of the garage to allow moisture to evaporate.

Adhesion Test

To ensure your insulation is properly bonded, test it on a small area and then try to remove it. Well-adhered foam will leave a “frosting” on the metal surface that is hard to peel off.

UV Protection

Protect the foam from UV rays. If the foam is hidden under a cover—such as an OSB panel—then there is no need to worry, as UV won't reach it. If the foam is exposed, consider painting it with acrylic paint, especially if the garage is often opened in summer and sunlight enters inside.

Health and Safety

Protect your face and respiratory tract during application. People insulating the ceiling are especially exposed to inhaling foam particles. We recommend the protection set “face shield + mask.” Wear old clothes or a painter's uniform.

Dirt Protection

If you can’t empty the entire garage before insulating, make sure to properly cover the items stored there. Dried foam is very hard to remove.

Frame Preparation

If you plan to cover the insulation with a protective layer, now is the best time to build a frame for installing panels, such as OSB. A few small beams placed into the structure will make the panel installation process easier.
